We are now a member of isla, a non-profit organisation helping the events industry reduce its environmental impact through practical tools and shared standards, with our Event & Scenic division signed up and spending the past month familiarising themselves with the framework, tools and practices it offers.

We already bring AV technical production, scenic build, and event print together under one division. This joined-up delivery model has helped clients reduce the time and effort spent managing multiple suppliers. Just as importantly, it has allowed us to take clear, practical steps that reduce environmental impact, through fewer transport movements, shared material planning, and more controlled production schedules. It is already a greener way to deliver.

Now, with isla membership, we are bringing in the tracking and structure to support this further. We are also staying open to new methods, checking our own assumptions, and holding ourselves to account against the latest recognised guidance for sustainable practice.

Over the past month, we have been embedding isla's tools and preparing to roll them out across teams. These are now shaping how we assess, plan and carry out production.

What is isla?

isla is a UK-based non-profit organisation that helps the events industry reduce its environmental impact through structured tools, guidance and shared learning.

As part of our membership, we gain access to two key resources: TRACE, a carbon measurement platform built specifically for live events, and proseed, a framework that supports better decision-making across areas such as materials, transport and power.

These tools provide a clear and consistent way to plan, track and improve the environmental performance of our work.

Sustainability starts at base, and we’ll be applying isla’s shared frameworks to improve how we plan, track and deliver every part of Event, Scenic and Print production.

TRACE: Measurable Carbon Tracking for Events

TRACE is isla's carbon measurement platform, designed specifically for event delivery. We are setting this up across our division to capture key data during planning and delivery, including:

  • Mileage by delivery category, such as kit, crew, scenic and print
  • Power usage, including on-site generators and mains
  • Material selection, weight, reusability and waste routes
  • Crew travel linked to technical and scenic schedules
  • Waste tracking by volume and type, including build waste and printed materials

This will allow us to present environmental performance data alongside event delivery reports. It also gives our team clear direction on where carbon reductions can be made across future projects.

proseed: Shared Frameworks for Practical Change

proseed is isla's guidance framework for sustainable event delivery. It breaks down a typical event into impact areas such as materials, transport, production design and power use.

For us, the most relevant areas are:

  • Materials
  • Power
  • Waste
  • Production design
  • Travel and transport

With grouped deliveries already in full swing across our event services, our teams will soon be applying practical transport planning supported by TRACE to cut carbon across event logistics.

What We're Putting Into Practice

We'll be applying changes across our Event & Scenic delivery that support better environmental outcomes. Some practices are in place, others are in active development, and all are being assessed through the lens of what's practical, measurable and repeatable. The focus is on long-term improvements that can hold up under scrutiny, while still meeting the creative and operational demands of live event delivery.

Here are some of the key steps being applied across our Event & Scenic delivery:

AV Technical Production

  • Logging power draw on selected jobs to support more efficient planning
  • Grouping equipment and crew transport with scenic and print to reduce mileage
  • Aligning crew schedules with scenic teams to reduce vehicle runs and simplify on-site management

Event Graphics and Print

  • Selecting print substrates based on reusability or recyclability, case by case
  • Auditing suppliers against environmental standards, including recovery and recycling
  • Coordinating post-event material returns as standard, not as a special request

Scenic Construction

  • Prioritising reuse of scenic stock before committing to new builds
  • Reviewing material selections to reduce reliance on PVC and non-recyclable finishes
  • Tracking workshop offcuts and setting waste reduction goals based on real project volumes

Training, Support, and Structured Collaboration

Our teams will undergo structured isla training. This includes the principles of sustainable production, how to use TRACE, and each team's responsibilities during delivery.

We will also take part in isla Office Hours for direct project advice, as well as Action Groups for shared learning across the supplier network. These sessions provide working guidance on complex areas, such as waste handling at venues with limited recycling, or sourcing reliable low-impact materials at scale.

This support brings consistent direction. It helps ensure our approach is based on tested, shared practice and gives us access to technical input when challenges arise.

Why This Makes Us a Stronger Delivery Partner

Clients already choose us because of the way we work. We combine AV, scenic and print under one delivery structure, with shared resources and coordinated planning. This reduces the need for multiple supplier briefs, improves coordination between technical, scenic and graphics teams from the outset, and cuts down on duplication across delivery and logistics.

Adding isla membership strengthens that offer. It allows us to support agencies and clients with sustainability data that meets the same standard across all departments. This removes the need to source separate reports from different suppliers, or to apply a sustainability framework once the event is already in progress.

Instead, we apply it early, with data to support the results. This simplifies decision-making, reduces late changes, and provides reporting that clients can stand behind. Built into our delivery model, it introduces no extra suppliers or confusion. The result is a clearer process, with consistent service and reliable environmental accountability from the start.

We're still at the early stages of putting this into practice, but we're committed to progressing it steadily and building something that adds clear value to our internal teams, to our clients, and to the environmental impact of the work we deliver.
