We’re pleased to confirm that our installation at The British Academy, delivered with Recursive, has been shortlisted for the Mondo-DR Awards 2025 in the Multipurpose Venue category.
The venue, located beneath a Grade I-listed building in Carlton House Terrace, London, was constructed in a space that originally served as a basement void. Working alongside Wright & Wright Architects, Recursive led the system design, and Media Powerhouse was appointed as integrator following a competitive process.
Our brief was to deliver a flexible, technically capable venue suitable for hybrid, live and recorded events, all within strict conservation constraints. The result includes three separate event rooms, each with tailored AV infrastructure and a shared control mezzanine. The system is scalable, operator-friendly and designed to support a range of content formats without disrupting the architectural integrity of the site.
About the Mondo-DR Awards
The Mondo-DR Awards recognise the best AV installations worldwide. They feature a range of categories spanning education, corporate, entertainment and multipurpose venues.
This year introduces a combined voting process, with 70% of the final score based on public votes and 30% determined by a professional jury. This model aims to balance audience support with technical assessment.

The SHAPE Room is one of three distinct event spaces at the British Academy. It features a curved projection wall, four edge-blended Epson laser projectors, retractable lighting hoists, and flexible power and data infrastructure.
Multipurpose Venue Category
This category highlights large venues capable of supporting varied use types. These typically include conference centres, cinemas and multi-use commercial environments.
The British Academy’s lower ground floor now comprises three such spaces:
-
The Lecture Room features a 4m x 4m Sharp/NEC LED videowall, ceiling microphones, PTZ cameras and AV-over-IP control.
-
The SHAPE Room includes a curved projection wall with four edge-blended Epson laser projectors, lighting hoists, and configurable power and rigging.
-
The Wohl Gallery serves smaller events, using a simplified AV set-up that can be operated without technical assistance.
Each space connects to a shared back-end system using Dante, Q-SYS and Crestron NVX, allowing signals to be routed between rooms. All three use the same DSP architecture and benefit from MobileConnect accessibility for hearing support.
Vote for the Project
Voting is open now and closes at midnight (BST) on Friday 16 May.
The Mondo-DR Awards take place on Wednesday 11 June 2025 at Ole Red, Orlando.
