As part of the Event & Scenic warehouse team, Ryan Setterfield helps keep projects running smoothly behind the scenes. Whether he’s prepping AV kit, loading trucks or pitching in onsite, his role bridges the technical prep and production worlds. Friendly, reliable and always up for a laugh, Ryan brings energy and a sense of fun to the day-to-day at Media Powerhouse.

Keeping the Warehouse Moving

Ryan works across all areas of the AV warehouse, prepping kit for shows, checking in returns, and supporting the wider team. He plays a hands-on role in making sure equipment goes out in working order, and comes back accounted for.

“A lot of it’s about keeping the wheels turning. Getting things out clean, labelled and working, then making sure it all comes back and gets turned around for the next job.”

He works closely with the Warehouse Manager and Project Managers to flag any issues early.

“It’s better to spot something before it leaves. We’ve all had those mornings where a bit of missing kit can delay a whole setup. If I can save someone that stress, I will, it makes me look good too.”

Learning the Kit

Ryan came into the role with some knowledge of AV kit, but it’s the time spent hands-on in the warehouse that’s made the real difference. Testing, troubleshooting and prepping gear daily has helped build a deeper understanding of how it all works.

“I knew a bit when I started, but most of it you learn by doing. Like testing stuff, playing with it when you’ve got time.”

That practical knowledge pays off when Ryan’s supporting onsite, especially during tight turnarounds or last-minute changes.

“If you’ve handled it in the warehouse, you’ve got a good head start on site. You can see what’s needed and just crack on.”

Supporting Last-Minute Turnarounds

With shows happening back-to-back, the warehouse team often works to tight turnarounds. Ryan plays a key part in that process, scanning returns, testing kit and prepping for the next job, sometimes all in the same day.

“You’ll get one job coming in while the next one’s already loading out. It can get hectic, but once you’ve got a rhythm, it flows and you get through it.”

Ryan hard at it in the AV warehouse, where kit prep, heavy lifting and a bit of banter all go hand in hand.

Loading Day Logistics

When it’s loading day, Ryan is front and centre, checking the kit, loading the truck and confirming everything’s good to go. It’s a physically demanding part of the role, and one where clear thinking counts.

“You’ve got to be on it. The driver’s waiting, the crew’s counting on what’s in that truck and when it leaves. If anything’s missing, or it’s running late, someone’s going to feel it on site.”

Bridging Prep and Production

Though his core role is warehouse-based, Ryan occasionally supports the team onsite, helping with delivery or set-up when needed.

“Some days I’m in the warehouse, other days I’m in a venue helping unload or setting up gear. It’s a nice mix and keeps it interesting.”

That variety suits Ryan’s approach, blending methodical prep work with moments of problem solving.

One memorable job saw him travel to Paris to support a show. After wrapping the event, the team was due to return home, but the Eurostar was suddenly suspended, stranding them in the city overnight.

“We had to wait a full day to get home. It was a bit of a surprise, but you’ve just got to laugh. I ended up seeing more of Paris than I expected, and giving the PM a bit of stick even though there wasn’t much he could do about it.”

Friendly Faces and Steady Hands

The Event & Scenic warehouse is a fast-moving environment, with trucks in and out daily and projects of all shapes and sizes.

“We all get on, there’s good energy in the warehouse. You’ve got your busy mornings and last-minute changes, but we keep it light-hearted. There’s always a bit of banter flying around, probably too much if you ask some, but it keeps us going”

That atmosphere makes a real difference, especially when the pressures on. Ryan’s attitude helps set the tone, practical, focused but always up for a laugh.

“It’s that balance. We take the job seriously, but we’re not taking ourselves too seriously. That’s what makes it work”

Ryan making the most of an unexpected extra day in Paris after Eurostar delays following a show, repping Media Powerhouse at the Arc de Triomphe.
