Media Powerhouse is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Rivers as Scenic Project Manager within our Event & Scenic Division.

With 39 years of experience in the set industry, Sean brings a deep understanding of scenic production that will strengthen our workshop and support the delivery of complex projects for events of all sizes.

His arrival reflects the continued growth of our in-house scenic capability and our commitment to delivering high-quality scenic builds alongside Technical Production for our clients.

A career built on experience

Sean began his career in 1986 with Upstage and has since built an extensive track record across the set and staging sector. His journey has taken him through respected names such as Event Set Services, Light Fantastic and Frames Design & Build, as well as a wide range of freelance and in-house roles for both production companies and agencies.

For the past decade he has been with Kew Workshop, managing projects for clients across many different event types. This breadth of experience has given him a practical and adaptable approach to delivering complex builds, making him the perfect fit for our expanding team.

A brief change of scene

During a short break from the events industry, Sean worked as a school caretaker, where the varied and ad hoc nature of the work required him to be resourceful with materials and practical in his approach to problem-solving.

He then spent time as a carpenter for an environmental agency, gaining knowledge of responsible practices and sustainable material sourcing. These experiences added to his skills and outlook, providing perspectives that continue to influence how he approaches scenic projects today.

The pull of live events soon brought him back, driven by his enjoyment of the fast-paced environment, the collaboration with skilled teams, and the satisfaction of seeing big projects come to life.

Scenic at Media Powerhouse

Our scenic workshop delivers all custom scenic builds in-house. The team produces bespoke set pieces tailored to each project, supported by a comprehensive stock of scenic flats, staging elements, and other reusable components. This approach ensures consistency in quality while allowing flexibility for tight deadlines.

In his role, Sean will work closely with the workshop team, as well as our technical production and event graphics departments, to support the project manager in bringing together all elements needed for a complete event solution.

This way of working is a defining strength of Media Powerhouse, bringing structure, technology, and visual design together within one company to deliver events with greater efficiency and control.

The work of our Scenic team is varied, with the capability to design and build set and scenic pieces for every purpose, from broadcast studio furniture to two-story themed temporary event structures.

Joining Media Powerhouse

The timing of Sean’s arrival reflects the growth of our scenic capability. With more large-scale projects and bespoke builds on the horizon, his expertise in both production and client liaison will be a valuable asset.

As the main point of contact for scenic projects, Sean will help maintain clear communication and ensure each element is prepared and delivered to the high standards we’re renowned for.

Looking ahead

Reflecting on his long career, Sean notes that the events industry has grown significantly since his early days. He is looking forward to contributing to the continued development of our scenic offering, working on a range of projects that challenge both creative and technical skills. His experience, combined with the resources of our workshop, will help ensure clients receive scenic solutions that meet their vision and practical requirements.

If you have an upcoming event that requires set or staging, our scenic team is ready to help.
